Major League Baseball player, right-handed Joshua Patrick Beckett famous by the nickname 'Josh- The Pitcher' was born on May 15, 1980 in Spring, Texas. Josh was an ardent fan of baseball from his pre-kindergarten days.

Josh's hometown provided the perfect ambience to nurture the next star in the Baseball arena. The Houston suburb where Josh spent most of his childhood was Mecca of Baseball. Many players had joined Minor leagues and college programs from this tiny suburb including Josh's boyhood friend Michael Marriott, who was signed by Florida Marlins.

Josh's family including his parents, John and Lynn along with his brother Jesse were quite confident that Josh would fulfill his dream of playing in the Major League. Florida Marlins scout Bob Laurie discovered Josh in the year 2001; Bob Laurie also has the credit of discovering other baseball majors like Jason Stokes. Josh played for Florida Marlins from 2001 to 2005, his early years were spent as a member of the young team, and his true potentials were hindered from blossoming due to frequent injuries. He appeared 102 times (99 starts) during 2002 to 2005.

On September the 4th, 2001, the 21 year old debuted against Chicago Cubs in the major league, in his major League debut Beckett gave up one hit over six shutout innings. Josh Beckett ended 2001 with and ERA of 1.50 with 2-2 record in four games.

In 2003 postseason Beckett's received the World Series MVP Award with two great performances within five days. Beckett along with team mate and catcher Iván Rodríguez steered Marlins to win the World Series, beating the New York Yankees in the finals. In the memorable Game 6 at the Yankee Stadium, Beckett shut Yankees out in a complete game, Beckett struck 9 batters to clinch the series for his team.

Joshua Patrick Beckett along with baseman Mike Lowell were traded to Red Sox of Boston in the year 2005, Marlins termed this as market correction for Beckett and Lowell. At the Red Sox Josh Beckett became the first pitcher to hit a home run in 35 year history, scored against Phillies' pitcher Brett Myers during an inter league game on May 20th 2006. Beckett's consistent performance brought him $30 million contract for a period of three years extendable up to 2010 with $10 million club. Josh finished his first season with the Boston Red Sox with an ERA of 5.01. In 204.2 IP, He Struck 158 batters and gave 191 hits, 36 homeruns were scored against him.

In 2007 Beckett became one among six to win first 7 starts in Red Sox's history. In 2007 Josh got an opportunity to play for the American League team in MLB All-Star Game. His good run continued as a team member of American League team.

Beckett reached the milestone of 1,000th career strikeout on May 8, 2008, a week before his 28th birthday.
